  <title><![CDATA[Public Policy Academic Professional and Ph.D. Student Publish Article in AMA Journal of Ethics]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p><a href="https://spp.gatech.edu/people/person/jason-borenstein">Jason Borenstein</a>, an academic professional&nbsp;in the Georgia Institute of Technology&nbsp;<a href="http://spp.gatech.edu">School of&nbsp;Public Policy</a>, and <a href="https://spp.gatech.edu/people/person/daniel-schiff">Daniel Schiff</a>, a Ph.D. student in the School, wrote an article about the potential harms from artificial intelligence (AI) surgical devices that was recently published&nbsp;in the <em>AMA Journal of Ethics.</em></p>

<p>In the article, entitled &ldquo;How Should Clinicians Communicate With Patients About the Roles of Artificially Intelligent Team Members?&rdquo;, the authors discuss&nbsp;informed consent and how responsibility should be distributed among professionals, technology companies, and other stakeholders for uses of AI in health care.</p>

<p>Borenstein&nbsp;is the director of Georgia Tech&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href="http://rcr.gatech.edu/">Graduate Research Ethics Programs</a>&nbsp;and associate director of the Institute&rsquo;s&nbsp;<a href="http://ethics.gatech.edu/">Center for Ethics and Technology</a>. His research interests include bioethics, engineering ethics, robot ethics, and research ethics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Schiff&nbsp;studied the philosophy of artificial intelligence at Princeton University before completing his graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania on education policy and research. His current research focuses on&nbsp;the implications of artificial intelligence for social policy, including education, labor, welfare, and inequality.&nbsp;</p>
