Volunteer to Help with the Point-in-Time (PIT) Homeless Count

The Atlanta Continuum of Care will conduct the Point-In-Time (PIT) Homeless Count January 22-27, 2019.

As you all know, this week-long PIT event is crucial for tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in Atlanta and essential for planning future efforts. Our efforts will help to identify these vulnerable groups by conducting surveys that collect demographic characteristics, homeless experiences and history, and other vital information. The homeless count is crucial for meeting federal requirements to continue receiving funds for homeless services, attracting philanthropic investors, and tracking the success of local efforts to end homelessness in Metro Atlanta.

The PIT gives the City and its partner agencies valuable information on the homeless population that makes it possible to strategically target resources for optimal results.

On Tuesday night, January 22, we will be surveying the unsheltered homeless who are sleeping in outdoor locations such as sidewalks, parks, encampments and under bridges. The rest of the week, we will continue to survey people at various service locations, asking them where they slept on the night on January 22.

The surveys will provide demographic information on each homeless individual, give insight to their homeless history, and assess individual needs that will enable the Continuum to effectively plan housing and service interventions to prevent and end homelessness in Atlanta.

This cannot happen, however, without your help!

We will need about 400 volunteers to conduct surveys to make the PIT Homeless Count a success and to help eliminate homelessness in Atlanta.

Volunteer registration is now open!!!
