INFORMS Student Chapter Talk :: Deciding Codeshared Flights: A Case Study in Optimization

Primary tabs

Over the past two decades, airlines have entered into partnerships
allowing them to market other airlines' flights as their own. This process,
known as "codesharing," allows partnering airlines to increase revenues by
expanding their networks. Decisions regarding codeshare flight selection
are subject to multiple regulatory, legal, and contractual issues. This
talk will focus on the development of models and solution methods to
automate the codeshare decision process at Delta Air Lines. The intent is
to provide an example of a real-world application of operations research
tools and techniques and to discuss how concepts learned in the classroom
lead to real results in a business setting.
