The diester derivative of DHF has been used exclusively as an electron-seeking (electrophilic) reagent in organic synthesis.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EResearch by \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/centerforchemicalevolution.com\/george-ward\u0022\u003EGeorge Ward\u003C\/a\u003E, in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, has expanded the scope of DHF chemistry by using it as a nucleus-seeking (nucleophilic) player in organic reactions in the presence of bases. Ward is a Ph.D. student of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu\/~sfrance3\/Stefan_France.html\u0022\u003EStefan France\u003C\/a\u003E, an associate professor of chemistry and member of the Parker H. Petit Institute of Bioengineering and Bioscience. They collaborated with \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.chemistry.gatech.edu\/faculty\/Liotta\/\u0022\u003ECharles Liotta\u003C\/a\u003E, professor of chemistry, and \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.scripps.edu\/krishnamurthy\/\u0022\u003ERamanarayanan Krishnamurthy\u003C\/a\u003E, of The Scripps Research Institute, in La Jolla, California.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe newly unleashed reactivity of the well-known reagent opens alternative routes to complex building blocks needed to prepare pharmaceutically relevant compounds.
