Unfortunately, casualties are associated with combat and sometimes are inevitable. The loss of even a single soldier in a war can alter the nation\u0026rsquo;s engagement strategy making it all the more important to save lives. The limited medical resources on the battlefield must be harnessed optimally to minimize casualties by identifying and attending to injured soldiers during the \u0026ldquo;Golden Hour.\u0026rdquo; Therefore, the value of any effort to minimize loss of human life is priceless.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe primary objective of the research has been to design and develop a garment (called a Sensate Liner) to detect the penetration of a projectile (e.g., bullets and shrapnel), monitor the soldier\u0026#39;s vital signs, and transmit it in real-time to alert the medical triage unit near the battlefield. A QFD-type (Quality Function Deployment) analysis was carried out leading to the following key \u003Cem\u003Erequirements\u003C\/em\u003E for the Sensate Liner: Functionality, Usability in Combat, Wearability, Durability, Manufacturability, Maintainability, Connectability and Affordability. The \u003Cem\u003Erequirements\u003C\/em\u003E were translated into desired \u003Cem\u003Eproperties\u003C\/em\u003E in the Sensate Liner, which in turn led to the \u003Cem\u003Edesign\u003C\/em\u003E of the structure.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe presentation will cover the development of a full-fashioned weaving process to create, for the first time, a three-dimensional \u003Cem\u003Egarment\u003C\/em\u003E on a loom, the concept of \u0026ldquo;interconnections\u0026rdquo; in textile structures to route information \u003Cem\u003Ethrough\u003C\/em\u003E the yarns in the fabric, and the successful development of an interconnection technology to create a customizable, wearable, and comfortable \u003Cem\u003Ewearable\u003C\/em\u003E \u003Cem\u003Einformation infrastructure\u003C\/em\u003E or Wearable Motherboard.
