<![CDATA[Transformative Listening: What Happens When a Narrative/Story is Heard?]]>
The workshop includes a variety of experiential exercises, and focuses on integrating the art, science, theory, and practice of transformative listening – in the context of storytelling. Participants explore how faculty/staff can support students/colleagues in navigating change and creating environments that support innovation and inclusion. Participants practice being “empowered listeners” and build skills to:
- be present for, and validate stories of those who have been excluded, silenced, judged, or marginalized
- genuinely acknowledge, honor, and value the truth of difficult and/or painful stories
- empathetically listen to assist students and colleagues with shifting difficult stories into stories of hope
