This year, three of Georgia\u0026rsquo;s members of Congress spent some of that time with Georgia Tech, as well as more than 25 of their staffers.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECongressman Buddy Carter, who represents Georgia\u0026rsquo;s first congressional district along the coast, visited the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/atdc.org\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EAdvanced Technology Development Center\u003C\/a\u003E (ATDC) in Tech Square to learn more about how ATDC is engaged in the health care startup industry. Congressman Carter, a health care professional himself, heard from health care startups about how the federal government might empower entrepreneurs in their pursuit of innovative ideas that better serve patients and families. He also met with staff in Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid to receive an update about what they are doing to help students afford a Georgia Tech degree. They also discussed the impact of current and proposed federal policies related to financial aid.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EUp in Smyrna, Congressman Jody Hice visited the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.gtri.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech Research Institute\u003C\/a\u003E (GTRI)\u0026rsquo;s Cobb County Research Facility (CCRF) located near Dobbins Air Reserve Base. Though Congressman Hice represents Georgia\u0026rsquo;s tenth congressional district in the eastern part of the state, he was visiting CCRF as part of his service on the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/armedservices.house.gov\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EHouse Committee on Armed Services\u003C\/a\u003E, specifically in his role as a member of the Subcommittee on Emerging Threats and Capabilities, which oversees and authorizes the Department of Defense\u0026rsquo;s $88 billion research enterprise.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBack in Atlanta, in his capacity on the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.armed-services.senate.gov\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ESenate Committee on Armed Services\u003C\/a\u003E, Georgia Tech alum and Georgia Senator David Perdue (BS IE \u0026rsquo;72, MS OR \u0026rsquo;75) hosted a roundtable at the Bill Moore Student Success Center to discuss the importance of Georgia\u0026rsquo;s nine military installations to the state\u0026rsquo;s economy and local communities.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELastly, 25 staff members of Georgia\u0026rsquo;s congressional offices gathered on campus for Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Congressional Staff Visit. This annual gathering allows Georgia- and D.C.-based congressional staffers to come to campus for an update on the people, places, and programs of Georgia Tech. This year, the group was briefed on:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cul\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003EResearch in Antarctica to test drilling for ice on Europa by \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/schmidt.eas.gatech.edu\/project-rise-up\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Britney Schmidt\u003C\/a\u003E, Assistant Professor in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.rh.gatech.edu\/news\/609512\/researchers-help-close-security-hole-popular-encryption-software\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EInternet-of-things and supply chain security\u003C\/a\u003E by Dr. Alenka Zajic, Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Dr. Milos Prvulovic, Associate Chair in the School of Computer Science;\u003C\/li\u003E\r\n\t\u003Cli\u003ECell manufacturing technologies by \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.roylab.gatech.edu\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Krish Roy\u003C\/a\u003E, Robert A. Milton Endowed Chair in the Wallace H.
