{"610428":{"#nid":"610428","#data":{"type":"event","title":"A Concert Celebrating the Seven Bridges of K\u00f6nigsberg ","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA long time ago, in a city far, far away, a mathematician solved a puzzle, the solution of which made our modern, connected world possible.\u0026nbsp;Georgia Tech\u0026#39;s School of Music and School of Mathematics have teamed up with local Atlanta artists to create a performance combining\u0026nbsp;contemporary dance, original music, and storytelling.\u0026nbsp;Called\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Seven\u0026nbsp; Bridges of K\u0026ouml;nigsberg\u003C\/em\u003E, the concert celebrates this history and aims to\u0026nbsp;spark\u0026nbsp;people\u0026rsquo;s curiosity and convey\u0026nbsp;the wonder of mathematics.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe classic puzzle that inspired Leonhard Euler to found the fields of topology and graph theory (or network theory) asked the simple question: Is it possible to cross all of the seven bridges of the city of K\u0026ouml;nigsberg exactly once, with no repetition or backtracking?\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEuler was not content with a yes-or-no answer. Instead he began to think about the nature of connectedness in a mathematical way, as it applies to all possible cities with any number of islands and bridges; as well as to networks of transportation, commerce, and communication; to the pathways by which diseases or ideas spread; and ultimately to our contemporary interconnected life.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Cem\u003ESeven Bridges of K\u0026ouml;nigsberg\u003C\/em\u003E was selected by a new program called Science in Vivo, funded by the Simons Foundation, to receive one of its inaugural 10 awards as an Experimental Site \u0026ldquo;exploring what is possible when science experiences for the public are integrated into existing cultural gatherings.\u0026rdquo;\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe debut performance on Sept.\u0026nbsp;13, 2018 will take place on the Georgia Tech campus along Atlantic Ave, where an installation of the Seven Bridges of K\u0026ouml;nigsberg puzzle was constructed earlier this year.\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETo tell about the foundation of graph theory, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra will perform a new composition by composer Marshall Coats, while\u0026nbsp;a math team and\u0026nbsp;dancers interpret the story and some concepts about graphs, as choreographed by guest artist Kristel Tedesco.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis performance will be repeated at the Bailey Center in the Kennesaw State University on Sept.\u0026nbsp;23, 2018.
