This past spring, the School of Industrial Design and CREATE-X expanded and formalized their collaboration.
This summer, industrial design students got the opportunity to get experience starting a business in the summer Startup Launch program at CREATE-X.
CREATE-X is an Institute-wide initiative that gives students the skills and knowledge to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities. During the summer Launch, students are supported with money and mentoring to fine-tune their business ideas.
The result of this collaboration and summer of work will be presented at Demo Day 2018 at the Fox Theatre in midtown Atlanta.
Visitors will be able to check out student products and services in fashion, healthcare, and more. The evening promises to showcase the next generation of student entrepreneurs from Georgia Tech.
This is the first summer so many industrial design teams have participated.
Steve Chininis, a professor of practice in the School and the official liaison with CREATE-X, expressed excitement for the students.
“I’m so excited that so many for our industrial design students are getting an opportunity to explore the world of start-ups and try their hands at being entrepreneurs," he said.
“It is a real experience, not a simulation, where you get to use real funds while you join with other disciplines to build exciting entrepreneurial teams.”
