Royster, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Ilya Kaminsky as the Margaret T. and Henry C. Bourne Jr. Chair in Poetry. Professor Kaminsky will join the faculty of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, as well as become the new director of the Poetry@Tech Program. He succeeds the inaugural Bourne Chair, Thomas Lux.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EProfessor\u0026nbsp;Kaminsky was born in Odessa, former USSR, and arrived in the United States in 1993 when his family was granted asylum. He is the author of\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EDancing in Odessa\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Tupelo Press),\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EDeaf Republic\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003E(forthcoming from Graywolf) and several other books, including \u003Cem\u003EDark Elderberry Branch: Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva\u003C\/em\u003E, which he co-translated with Jean Valentine (Alice James Books). He has edited many collections of poems and essays, including\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EEcco Anthology of International Poetry\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Harper Collins) which has been called \u0026ldquo;a modern classic.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2018, Professor Kaminsky was awarded the prestigious John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship in Poetry. His poems have been translated into numerous languages around the globe and his books have been published in Turkey, Netherlands, Russia, France, Mexico, Macedonia, Romania, Spain, and China, where his poetry was awarded the Yinchuan International Poetry Prize.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHis other awards include the American Academy of Arts and Letters\u0026rsquo; Metcalf Award, The Whiting Writers Award, Ruth Lilly Fellowship,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EPoetry \u003C\/em\u003Emagazine\u0026rsquo;s Levinson Prize, Pushcart Prize, and others. Recently, he was on the shortlist for the Neusdadt International Literature Prize. His essays appear in publications such as\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe New York Times\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Guardian (UK)\u003C\/em\u003E,\u0026nbsp;and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EBoston Review\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe has previously served as the director of the Harriet Monroe Poetry Institute at Poetry Foundation, and as a professor of English and comparative literature at San Diego State University.\u0026nbsp;He is an award-winning teacher who is committed to building science,\u0026nbsp;technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics\u0026nbsp;(STEAM) \u0026mdash; integrating the arts into the STEM fields.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Dr. Kaminsky\u0026rsquo;s international focus puts him squarely within our strategic plans for expanding Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s global footprint,\u0026rdquo; said Ivan Allen College Dean Jacqueline J.
