{"606928":{"#nid":"606928","#data":{"type":"news","title":"New Initiative Will Help Industrial Design Students See Themselves as Entrepreneurs","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/id.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ESchool of Industrial Design\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;students have only been a very small part of\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/create-x.gatech.edu\/1home.html\u0022\u003ECREATE-X\u003C\/a\u003E, an initiative that gives students the skills and knowledge to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENow, the School and CREATE-X are hoping to change that. Together they have launched a new competition designed to encourage more ID students to take part in the program. It also ensures that at least one ID team takes part in the CREATE-X summer Startup Launch program.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECREATE-X is composed of three elements \u0026ndash; Learn, Make, Launch \u0026ndash; in which students learn about entrepreneurship and startups, get mentoring, financial backing, and more. They also can receive class credit.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFor this new award, industrial design faculty encouraged students to apply. The School received 19 applications and the winner of the new CREATE-X Industrial Design Prize will be announced at Launchpad Plus on May 3.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winner will get a slot in the CREATE-X summer Startup Launch that gives participants $20,000 to spend on their project.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHowever, the general CREATE-X Startup Launch has many more slots and ID teams not chosen may submit their projects to the general CREATE-X competition.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ECurrently, only about 1% of CREATE-X students have come from the School of Industrial Design.
