{"606492":{"#nid":"606492","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Georgia Tech Researchers Among Co-Authors of \u201cGeorgia Climate Research Roadmap\u201d","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThree Georgia Tech researchers are members of a transdisciplinary team of experts from across Georgia who have released the \u0026quot;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/roadmap.georgiaclimateproject.org\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeorgia Climate Research Roadmap\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026quot; They are Brook Byers Professor \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/spp.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/91044ab3-9e96-5940-80a3-46f80924f3d1\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EMarilyn\u0026nbsp;Brown\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Regents Professor, School of Public Policy), Brook Byers Institute for Sustainable Systems (BBISS) Fellow \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/matisoff\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDaniel Matisoff\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Associate Professor, School of Public Policy), and former BBISS Fellow \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.eas.gatech.edu\/people\/dr-kim-cobb\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EKim Cobb\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;(Georgia Power Chair and ADVANCE Professor, School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences).\u0026nbsp; Also on the team is Jean-Ann James, a Georgia Tech Alum and former BBISS Post-Doctoral Fellow, now with the Turner Foundation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Roadmap is designed to help policymakers, researchers, and citizens to better understand how climate change is likely to unfold in Georgia, and what can be done to address these issues. \u0026nbsp;It consists of a list of 40 key research questions grouped across themes such as water, coastal Georgia, agriculture, health, and energy.\u0026nbsp; \u0026ldquo;We have taken an important first step towards ensuring the continued prosperity and well-being of all Georgians in the face of climate change,\u0026rdquo; said Kim Cobb.\u0026nbsp; Several of the questions also consider issues related to equity and at-risk communities.\u0026nbsp; The Roadmap, \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/link.springer.com\/article\/10.1007\/s00267-018-1051-4\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Epublished\u0026nbsp;in the journal \u003Cem\u003EEnvironmental Management\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, is an initiative of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.georgiaclimateproject.org\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EGeorgia Climate Project\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Roadmap was developed by a team of 41 co-authors from academia, government, non-governmental organizations, and industry.\u0026nbsp; The team sorted through a list of 180 questions that were submitted by experts across the state through an online solicitation process. \u0026quot;To our knowledge, we are the first to use this novel research prioritization methodology on such a complex cross-cutting issue at the state level,\u0026quot; said Marilyn Brown.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Climate Research Roadmap does not end with the publication of the 40 questions.\u0026nbsp; The initiative and website will serve as the basis for a climate information portal that will provide easy access to information on climate impacts and solutions in Georgia as more research and work is performed.\u0026nbsp; \u0026ldquo;Getting researchers and practitioners to converge on a set of policy and research priorities is a huge accomplishment and is great for our state. I hope that the Roadmap seeds a variety of collaborative research and policy efforts that can build on our momentum,\u0026rdquo; said Daniel Matisoff.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia Climate Project is a multi-year effort to improve understanding of climate impacts and solutions in Georgia, and lay the groundwork for the state and its residents to take effective, science-based climate action.\u0026nbsp;
