Digital Media Student Projects Shine at Research Showcase

From an ancient Chinese fairy tale to a jailbreak set in a galaxy far, far away, graduate students in the Digital Media program of the School of Literature, Media, and Communication presented a variety of projects at the 2018 GVU Center & Digital Media Research Showcase.

Around 150 people attended the event at the Technology Square Research Building. It featured more than 117 projects in virtual reality, robotics, civic computing, data visualization, and more.

Some of the projects included:

Ma Liang and the Magic Brush, a virtual reality experience that allowed users to wield a magic paintbrush to illuminate a room, block a villain’s path, climb to escape the building, and finally fly away.

Star Wars Escape, another virtual reality project featuring BB-8 from Star Wars.

Wearable Carbon Footprint, a physical manifestation of a user’s carbon footprint, meant to bring awareness to issues surrounding energy consumption and climate change.
