605137 news 1523899122 1524497824 <![CDATA[Georgia Tech School of Public Policy Ph.D. Students Win at National Hackathon Competition]]> School of Public Policy Ph.D. candidates Karim Farhat and Karl Grindal recently competed at the first-ever Information Operations Technical and Policy Hackathon held at Harvard University. College students across the country came to Harvard to compete in the hackathon. Karim Farhat and Karl Grindal were one of eight teams who presented their ideas to a panel of judges that included former Secretary of Defense and Belfer Center Director Ash Carter and former Pentagon “cyber czar” and current Defending Digital Democracy Project (D3P) Director and Belfer Center Co-Director Eric Rosenbach. The hackathon competition was the conclusion of a 3-day D3P conference focused on fortifying election security and digital democracy. Karim and Karl finished first in the policy category and were awarded $5,000.
