{"602743":{"#nid":"602743","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Dalle Vacche Receives Invitation to Be Goggio Visiting Professor at The University of Toronto, Canada","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAngela Dalle Vacche, professor of Film Studies in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC) at Georgia Institute of Technology, will be the Goggio Visiting Professor at The University of Toronto, Canada, in the Fall Semester 2018.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOriginally a native of Venice, Italy, Dalle Vacche taught at Vassar College and at Yale University, before coming to Georgia Tech in 2001. In the United States, she was the first to open the academic study of film to the history of art. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I was born in a city which is a floating museum and which is completely devoted to the arts, with the Art Biennale every other year,\u0026rdquo; she said, \u0026ldquo;I grew up going to the Venice Film Festival every September, so, when I originally came to the U.S.A. in 1978, I was determined to study the moving image in depth.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDalle Vacche has published three books:\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Body in the Mirror: Shapes of History in Italian Cinema\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003E(1992);\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003ECinema and Painting\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(1996); and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EDiva\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(2008) on female stars in early\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EItalian cinema.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/em\u003EShe has also produced three anthologies:\u003Cem\u003E\u0026nbsp;The Visual Turn: Film Theory and Art History\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(2004);\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EColor, The Film Reader\u003C\/em\u003E, co-edited with Brian Price (2006), and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EFilm, Art, New Media: Museum without Walls\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(2012). All her books are still in print and widely cited. For example,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EThe Body in the Mirror\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;was included in the prestigious\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EPrinceton Legacy \u003C\/em\u003Eseries.\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EDiva\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;received an award from the American Association of University Libraries. She is currently completing a monograph based on the Yale Andre Bazin Archive which is titled:\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EAndre Bazin\u0026rsquo;s Film Theory: Art,\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EScience, Religion\u003C\/em\u003E\u0026nbsp;(1943 - 1958).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;I am very happy and most grateful for the Goggio appointment, because it rewards me for my entire career and my commitment to interdisciplinary research with special emphasis on the intersection between film and art history. LMC at Georgia Tech has been a very productive and inspirational place for me.\u0026nbsp; In my latest book, I continue to work with art theory, but I have also branched out into the history of science.
