Prvulovic is taking over for Professor Alessandro Orso, who held the position for three years.

The associate chair’s main function is to act as stand-in when the chair is out. The role also requires managing faculty logistics, such as allocating offices and planning teaching schedules. Prvulovic’s goal is to streamline this process.

“It’s an opportunity to see how the school works because even though I’ve been here since I graduated with my Ph.D. in 2003, all I knew was the faculty side of things,” Prvulovic said. “I felt like it was time to learn more.”

Prvulovic joined the College of Computing in 2003 and has become one of the school’s most prominent computer architects. His research focuses on runtime program monitoring, security analysis, debugging, and hardware performance modeling and security.

Most recently, he is developing a new technique for wirelessly monitoring Internet of Things (IoT) devices for malicious software by analyzing side-channel attacks. These attacks exploit electromagnetic emissions produced unintentionally by IoT devices during operations. Prvulovic is collaborating on the project with Orso and School of Electrical and Computer Engineering Associate Professor Alenka Zajic with a $9.4 million grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

“Milos Prvulovic has served the School of Computer Science well in research, teaching, and in major service roles, such as leading the Faculty Recruiting and School Advisory Committee,” SCS Chair Lance Fortnow said. “I look forward to working with Milos to strengthen our school and meet the growing demands in computing.”
