Too often, however, executives and investors rely on partial metrics to gauge business success or failure. And partial metrics only tell a partial story. The Drucker Institute has brought together five dimensions of corporate performance—Customer Satisfaction, Employee Engagement and Development, Innovation, Social Responsibility and Financial Strength—to create a holistic perspective based on Peter Drucker’s core principles. Join the Institute’s executive director for a behind-the-scenes tour of how this system works, and what it means for the companies hoping to make the Management Top 250 ranking that The Wall Street Journal publishes annually using the Drucker Institute’s research. 

Zach First has been a member of the Drucker Institute team since 2007. Prior to being named executive director, he invented the Institute’s corporate consulting practice and led several core elements of the organization’s strategy, finances and operations. Zach is the author of four articles for Harvard Business Review, and the co-author, with Richard Chait, of “Bullish on Private Colleges,” published by Harvard Magazine. Previously, Zach served as the inaugural assistant dean at Olin College, which was founded in 2000 with a $430 million gift from the F. W. Olin Foundation in order to reinvent engineering education. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from Haverford College, where his advisor was Lucius Outlaw, Jr. He earned his masters and doctorate degrees in higher education from Harvard University, with Richard Chait as his mentor. He is a trustee and president of the board of the Children’s Center at Caltech, one of America’s leading nonprofit providers of innovative STEM-based early childhood and preschool education. From 2013-2016, Zach was a member of the Board of Advisors at PayScale, creator of the world’s largest database of individual compensation profiles. And from 2009-2011, he was a fellow of the National Forum on the Future of Liberal Education.

Since 2002, the Impact Speaker Series has brought highly successful business leaders from a variety of industries to campus to share their experiences and give advice to students and other entrepreneurs on topics ranging from "building a venture around intellectual capital" to "successful entrepreneurship in large organizations" and "socially responsible leadership." The weekly series provides Georgia Tech students, alumni and the Atlanta business community an opportunity to network and learn from successful entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and notable business and non-profit leaders. The lecture series is sponsored by the Institute for Leadership and Entrepreneurship.
