{"599219":{"#nid":"599219","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Map and Poster Winners Chosen at Annual GIS Day","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/spav.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003ECenter for Spatial Planning Analytics and Visualization\u003C\/a\u003E (formerly the Center for Geographic Information Systems) recently held its annual\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/spav.gatech.edu\/students\u0022\u003E GIS Day Map and Poster Competition\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAbout 40 graduate and undergraduate students from various disciplines across the Institute entered original maps and posters highlighting their interest and research in geospatial disciplines and technologies.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winner for best poster was Matt Leonard, MS GIS\u0026amp;T, \u0026ldquo;School Attendance Zones vs Socioeconomic Disparity: A Case Study of Gwinnett County, Georgia.\u0026rdquo;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n2\u003Csup\u003End\u003C\/sup\u003E Place went to Evan Mallen, Ph.D. City and Regional Planning, \u0026ldquo;Thermal Impacts of Built and Vegetated Environments on Local Microclimates in the Tech Climate Network.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E3\u003Csup\u003Erd\u003C\/sup\u003E Place went to Sophia Carpenter, MCRP, \u0026ldquo;Are Charlotte-Mecklenburg Parks Accessible, Equitable, and Purposeful?\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe winner for best map was Lucy Bullen, BS ISYE 2017, \u0026quot;Baby Driver Washington DC Heist Planner.\u0026quot;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n2\u003Csup\u003End\u003C\/sup\u003E Place went to Amy Harper, BS CE 2018, \u0026ldquo;No Need for a Car in Downtown Portland.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E3\u003Csup\u003Erd\u003C\/sup\u003E Place went to Meghan Evers, BS CE 2018, \u0026ldquo;Poverty and Education in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.\u0026rdquo;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nFirst-place winners get their names on a plaque in the Center\u0026rsquo;s office, a map-inspired book of their choice, and some Georgia Tech swag.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EEntries this year were displayed on the 3rd floor of Architecture West.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EStudents were evaluated on originality, cartographic skills, and effectiveness as a communication device.
