The event celebrates the artists participating in Chalk the Walk, taking place Oct. 21 – 23. Artists will transform 9-by-9-foot sections of sidewalk leading to the Library into a vibrant outdoor gallery celebrating literature and art.

Participants will select a favorite book and create either an artistic rendition of its cover or a reimagined interpretation using sidewalk chalk.

Artists will create their work Oct. 21 – 23, transforming a highly visible campus pathway into a temporary public art installation that celebrates creativity, reading, visual storytelling, and Georgia Tech spirit.

Finished works will remain on display throughout Homecoming Week, weather permitting.

Chalk the Walk is a collaboration between the Georgia Tech Library and Georgia Tech Arts.

Biophilia runs through Sept. 11 at the IMZ, located on Price GIlbert's Grove Level. Blending painting, virtual reality, and digital media, Biophilia invites visitors to experience nature as more than a landscape—encouraging reflection on the living connections between people and the natural world through immersive and interactive media.

Supported by a GT Arts 2025–26 Catalyst Grant, the exhibition highlights the innovative, interdisciplinary work made possible through GT Arts' investment in creative research and artistic exploration.

This workshop is intended for students, faculty, and staff at Georgia Tech and guests interested in learning more about patent searching. The session will cover patent classification systems and focus on the following two patent databases: Espacenet (Open access) and PatSnap (Georgia Tech only). We will provide an overview of the database platforms and examine the unique search features of each database. Attendees are encouraged to follow along with tool demonstrations.

Patents provide valuable and cutting-edge information for innovators and researchers. This workshop will begin with a brief introduction to intellectual property and then will focus on patents. The presenter will demonstrate how to conduct preliminary patent searches using publicly accessible patent tools. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on learning activities.

Contributors Val Barnhart, Matthew Frizzel, Ed Hall, and Dedren Snead will join Yaszek to explore John P. Moore's rediscovered contributions to science fiction. Through the conversation, attendees will learn more about the thriving Black science-fiction community of the 1930s, the role of historical research and contemporary literary scholarship, and how Georgia Tech students worked to recover and reexamine the lost worlds of Moore's The Martian Trilogy.

EndNote software is available to the Georgia Tech community, as part of your Georgia Tech Technology Fee.

At the end of this session you will be able to add references to EndNote from databases and online sources, manage references and PDFs in EndNote, and use Cite While You Write to add citations from EndNote to MS Word documents.

The program will feature Hijacked Histories, Polarized Futures by historian Abby Smith Rumsey. Originally delivered in 2023, the talk offers a framework for discussing current social and political tensions and how increasing polarization could shape the future.

Led by the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking, this workshop will explore an early form of cameraless photography known as the cyanotype. Using paper pre-coated with a mixture of chemicals, sunlight, and plants, participants will create their own cyanotypes.

After creating an individual cyanotype, participants will collaborate on a large group piece. 

Participants will also learn about the history of cyanotypes, from the technique's invention and earliest photographic applications to contemporary paper artists who create artwork using this process.

All materials are provided.

This workshop is open to Georgia Tech students, staff, and faculty. It will be held in the Wilby Room (Room G-120) in Crosland Tower, near Blue Donkey Coffee.

Panelists include Olympian Matthew Ryan ('96, handball); Paralympic gold medalist and former vice chairman of the 1996 Paralympic Organizing Committee Al Mead ('88, '92, para track and field); Dr. Mindy Millard-Stafford, director of Georgia Tech's Exercise Physiology Laboratory; and Public Engagement Librarian Charlie Bennett, who was a Georgia Tech student during the Games.

Together, they will share personal stories, behind-the-scenes perspectives, and reflections on this historic moment in Atlanta's history.

The program will conclude with a special lighting of the 1996 Olympic torch in honor of former Georgia Tech mechanical engineering professor Sam Shelton, whose engineering expertise contributed to one of the most recognizable symbols of the Centennial Olympic Games.

About Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech's Olympic Legacy

Thirty years ago, Atlanta welcomed the world for the Centennial Olympic Games, a 17-day event that transformed both the city and the Georgia Tech campus. The Games spurred significant urban renewal and infrastructure projects, elevating Atlanta's profile on the global stage.

At the heart of that transformation was Georgia Tech. Serving as the Olympic Village and host to several competition venues, the Institute renovated Alexander Memorial Coliseum and added seven residence halls, North Avenue Apartments, the Campanile, and a new pool that later became part of the Campus Recreation Center, shaping the student experience for generations.

The Georgia Tech community is invited to revisit these Olympic memories and explore their legacy through the Library's newest exhibit, Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech's Olympic Legacy. The exhibit examines the lasting impact of the 1996 Games through photographs, artifacts, and personal stories.

Centennial Summer: Georgia Tech's Olympic Legacy is on display through mid-November in the Library Exhibit Gallery on the first floor of Price Gilbert. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily.

The event will feature some of the lab’s most compelling items, including video games created for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

This event includes a viewing of computing pioneer Douglas Engelbart's demonstration of then-emerging technologies in 1968 at the Association for Computing Machinery and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers conference. The computer mouse, word processing, shared-screen collaboration, and videoconferencing are all in this demo in their first form. 

No need to stay for the entire presentation; drop in for some popcorn and catch part of this historic demonstration.
