A new study from University of Wisconsin-Madison researchers that looked at the Long Valley Caldera in California indicates lower temperatures and magma cool enough to be solid. In addition to this New York Times story, the study is also featured in Newsweek. The study's first author is Nathan Andersen, now a postdoctoral researcher in Professor Joe Dufek's Geophysics@Georgia Tech lab in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences.
