Staff Council Seeks New Representatives, Committee Members

After another successful year, the Georgia Tech Staff Council is looking for new Council members to fill the positions of those who will rotate off in December and to fill committee member positions on all standing committees.

Unlike previous election cycles, this year Staff Council member nominations and Staff Council committee member applications will run simultaneously.

Staff Council Membership

The Georgia Tech Staff Council provides a formal means for staff members to communicate their perspectives to the Institute’s executive leadership. The Staff Council is composed of 20 staff members who are nominated and elected for a three-year term. This year, staff will have the opportunity to elect seven new members to the Council whose job titles are classified as the following in the Job Classification and Compensation System (JCCS):

Administrative and Professional.

Skilled Trades.

Scientific and Research.

Information Technology.

Staff may nominate more than one person, subject to eligibility guidelines.

Staff Council Committee Membership

Staff Council committee members work to reinforce the work of the Staff Council through committee activities and programs. Committees are made up of up to 13 staff members who apply for a position, are selected by the committee chairpersons, and serve a one-year term. Each year, staff members interested in serving on a committee must submit an application.

Staff Council committee work focuses on five specific topics:

Campus physical environment.

Communication.

Compensation and benefits.

Employee engagement.

Employee health and well-being.

Because there are a limited number of spaces on the committees, interested staff should be specific in explaining their skills and desires for committee membership. To qualify to serve on a committee, the staff member should:

Be a full-time or part-time (at least 20 hours per week).

Have completed six months of service to Georgia Tech as of March 13, 2017.

Be employed with an eligible staff title.

Have the support of his or her supervisor.

Be able to spend three to five hours per month on committee work. Committee membership will begin in January 2018 and end in December 2018.

How to Apply to Serve as a Staff Council or Staff Council Committee Member

Nominations and committee applications will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 13, at 11:59 p.m. Nomination forms and election process details are available at staffcouncil.gatech.edu.
