592914 news 1498242559 1501267104 <![CDATA[Magerko’s AdamLab Team Receives First Place at 2017 Turing Tests in Creative Arts]]> Brian Magerko, an associate professor in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication and his AdamLab team have been awarded the first place in the DanceX Competition of the 2017 Turing Tests in the Creative Arts.

The awards were announced by the Neukom Institute for Computational Science at Dartmouth College on Tuesday, June 20th, during the Music Metacreation Workshop (MuMe), part of the International Conference on Computational Creativity (ICCC), in Atlanta.

The contest pits poetry, literature, music, and dance created by machines against works created by humans. In its second year, the Awards were estabished to recognize artificial intelligence creations that are indistinguishable from human work.

The project

LuminAI is a dome-based art installation in which participants can engage in collaborative movement improvisation with each other and artificially intelligent virtual dance partners. This video shows both human motion capture and computer-generated dance partner.

Magerko’s AdamLab is part of the Graduate Program in Digital Media at Georgia Tech Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
