  <title><![CDATA[Mystery solved: How flamingos can sleep while standing on one leg]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>There was a eureka&nbsp;moment for&nbsp;School of Biological Sciences professor <a href="http://biosci.gatech.edu/people/young-chang">Young-Hui Chang</a> during his research into why and how flamingos can stand and sleep on one leg. That revelation helped Chang and fellow researcher <a href="http://neuromechanicslab.emory.edu/people/ting-lena.html">Lena Ting</a>, a professor in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering, describe in their new <a href="http://rsbl.royalsocietypublishing.org/content/13/5/20160948">study</a>&nbsp;how the flamingo&#39;s skeletal and muscle systems allow them to hold the one-legged pose&nbsp;with little muscle effort. Chang is also the director of the <a href="https://pwp.gatech.edu/cnl/">Comparative Neuromechanics Laboratory</a>.</p>
