{"591074":{"#nid":"591074","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Call for Applications: Fulbright Canada Youth Institute on Canada in the World","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EFulbright Canada will be hosting a \u003Cstrong\u003EYouth Institute on Canada in the World\u003C\/strong\u003E from September 30 to October 8, 2017.\u0026nbsp; The Institute will engage and support 20 bright young undergraduate students from the United States and Canada who are eager to provide an important youth perspective on Canada\u0026rsquo;s role in the world (and on Canada-U.S. relations).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EParticipants will travel to \u003Cstrong\u003EOttawa and Quebec City \u003C\/strong\u003Eto meet with foreign policy experts, academics, Canadian diplomats, senior officials in government, and media representatives, for ten days of discussion, policy formulation, and participation in cultural activities. Participants must be citizens of the United States or Canada, or permanent residents in Canada.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E2. Participants must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution, have completed at least two years and be registered to return for the 2017-2018 academic year, and be in good academic standing.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E3. Participants must be at least 19 years of age by the start of the program and hold a valid passport.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addition, ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2713 a clear and compelling interest in Canada and in global issues,\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2713 the ability to think critically and engage in respectful discussions with experts and peers, and\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u2713 a commitment to community engagement.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003ERequirements\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E1. The Reference Form must be completed by June 7, 2017. It is your responsibility to advise your referee of this deadline, as their completed form is required for your application to be eligible.)\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E2. Successful students must be willing to participate in the full week of planned activities (September 30-October 8, 2017). Further, the students are expected to be respectful of the other participants and speakers. If the students fail to comply with these expectations they will be asked to leave and any costs accrued to modify travel arrangements will not be covered.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E3. Following the program in Ottawa, by agreeing to participate in the institute, the students also agree to participate in the development of a policy brief that will lay out a vision for Canada\u0026rsquo;s role in the world, which will then be reviewed by Fulbright Scholar subject experts, sent to the Office of the Prime Minister, and published in an open-access journal.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cem\u003ESelection Process\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EA Selection Committee made up of representatives from Fulbright Canada, its partner universities, and the Government of Canada will choose candidates based on their academic standing, the strength of their personal statement, responses to theme-based questions, and recommendations letters.
