He will be presented with this honor on May 22 at the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Communications, which will be held in Paris, France.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThis award recognizes an outstanding paper that has been published in any IEEE Communications Society publication in the last 15 years and that has opened new lines of work, envisioned bold approaches to communication, formulated new problems to solve, and essentially enlarged the field of communications engineering.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe title of Li\u0026rsquo;s award-winning paper is \u0026ldquo;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/ieeexplore.ieee.org\/document\/5783982\/\u0022\u003EFundamental Trade-offs on Green Wireless Networks\u003C\/a\u003E,\u0026rdquo; which was published in the June 2011 issue of\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003EIEEE Communications Magazine \u003C\/em\u003E(volume 49, number 6, pp. 30-37).\u0026nbsp;His coauthors on the paper are Yan Chen, Shunqing Zhang, and Shugong Xu. At the time of writing the paper, all three of Geoffrey\u0026#39;s coauthors worked at Huawei; Zhang and Xu are now with Shanghai University.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs environmental protection and energy saving have become a global demand and inevitable trend, Li\u0026rsquo;s and his colleagues\u0026rsquo; paper, for the first time in the world, successfully established a unified framework on green communications with four fundamental trade-offs, and has already been highly recognized and accepted by the researchers and engineers in this field as an important direction to follow nowadays. The proposed fundamental trade-offs have been used in product optimization by many companies.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ELi is a professor in the Georgia Tech School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), where he leads the Information Transmission and Processing Laboratory.
