She\u0026rsquo;s clearly practiced what she\u0026rsquo;s preaching.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EForeman, who is graduating with a B.S. in Psychology, was on the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/diversity.gatech.edu\/blackstudentexperiencetaskforce\u0022\u003EBlack Student Experience Task Force\u003C\/a\u003E and received the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/campusservices.gatech.edu\/scholarships\u0022\u003ECampus Life and Community at Tech Scholarship\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn 2016, Foreman participated in the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/sdie.gatech.edu\/transformative-narratives\/\u0022\u003ETransformative Narratives Project\u003C\/a\u003E, which aims to showcase Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s diversity through personal stories.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShe hopes to make a difference with mental health counseling and treatment in minority communities, and her first stop on that journey after graduation is a job with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/research.ibm.com\/\u0022\u003EIBM Research\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat attracted you to Georgia Tech? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBoth of my parents are Georgia Tech industrial engineering graduates, so I grew up a Yellow Jacket. I was personally drawn to Georgia Tech because of the opportunity to participate in research starting in my freshman year. Also, the small size of the psychology department would allow for a lot of personal instruction.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EHow would you describe your life before enrolling in Georgia Tech?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI was very fortunate to attend \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.woodward.edu\/\u0022\u003EWoodward Academy\u003C\/a\u003E from kindergarten through my senior year, so I had a very strong and supportive community. When I wasn\u0026rsquo;t studying, I spent most of my time on the golf course or doing social justice work on campus. I have a tight-knit group of friends, and I spent a lot of time hanging out with them.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is the most important thing you learned at Georgia Tech? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech taught me how to persevere beyond all odds. Tech has exceeded expectations academically, and I feel like I have received a world-class education. Socially, however, it has definitely fallen short. I do not think Tech is supportive of students who don\u0026rsquo;t want to be involved in Greek life.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat surprised or disappointed you the most about Georgia Tech? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI was surprised by how long it took to find students who were willing to help you through classes. For my first few semesters, everything seemed so cutthroat, and you are on your own.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI was disappointed the most by the social life at Tech. It\u0026rsquo;s based on cliques. You are either in or out.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhich professor(s) or class(es) made a big impact on you? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMy \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/psychology.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/fall_2016_courses.pdf\u0022\u003EHuman Development\u003C\/a\u003E class with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.psychology.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/411\u0022\u003EDr. Jenny Singleton\u003C\/a\u003E had a big impact, because it really confirmed for me that I was studying the right major. I wish the psychology school had more classes like it.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/hsoc.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/syllabi\/hts3027.pdf\u0022\u003ECivil Rights Movement\u003C\/a\u003E class also taught me a lot. It\u0026rsquo;s a class all students should be required to take.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat is your most vivid memory of Georgia Tech?\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWhen President Barack Obama \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.news.gatech.edu\/features\/president-obama-visits-georgia-tech\u0022\u003Evisited\u003C\/a\u003E Georgia Tech on March 15, 2015. We all spent hours waiting in line!\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EIf you participated in experiential learning activities, what was the most valuable outcome of your experience? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EI participated in undergraduate research for all four years. That really taught me how to solve difficult questions and follow the process of research from start to finish. It was such an amazing experience to be immersed in another culture so different from my own.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EOn the basis of your experience, what advice would you give to incoming freshmen at Georgia Tech? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGo to those early meet-and-greets, and find a club that can really make you feel like you have a community and a home.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EWhat feedback would you give to Georgia Tech to improve the campus experience for future students? \u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlways make the well-being of the students your priority.
