Wang, of Marietta, Georgia, is the recipient of the 2017 Love Family Foundation Scholarship. This award is the highest that Georgia Tech gives to a graduating senior. Wang graduates on May 6, 2017, with B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Computer Science and more mathematics credits than most math majors.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Love Family Foundation Scholarship goes each year to a member of the graduating class with the most outstanding scholastic record. The $10,000 scholarship is provided by the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.printpack.com\/the-gay-erskine-love-foundation\u0022\u003EGay and Erskine Love Foundation\u003C\/a\u003E. Students in all six of Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s colleges are considered for the award. Wang shares the 2017 award with electrical and engineering major George Tzintzarov.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWang has a GPA of 4.0 in both his majors and has done undergraduate research. In the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry, he worked in the lab of \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.chemistry.gatech.edu\/people\/janata\/jiri%20(art)\u0022\u003EJiri \u0026ldquo;Art\u0026rdquo; Janata\u003C\/a\u003E for almost two years. \u0026ldquo;He was eager to learn new things and we were happy to have him,\u0026rdquo; Janata says. \u0026ldquo;He demonstrated great talent for experimental work. We were sorry to see him leave.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWang left the lab because mathematics had captured his interest.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EFunded by a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/urop.gatech.edu\/content\/presidents-undergraduate-research-awards\u0022\u003EPresident\u0026rsquo;s Undergraduate Research Award\u003C\/a\u003E, Wang worked with \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/people.math.gatech.edu\/~jyu67\/\u0022\u003EJosephine Yu,\u003C\/a\u003E an assistant professor in the School of Mathematics. The undergraduate research has yielded two articles co-authored by Wang. \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1606.01814\u0022\u003E\u0026ldquo;Generalized Permutohedra from Probabilistic Graphical Models\u0026rdquo; has been posted on arXiv.org\u003C\/a\u003E and is under review for publication in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.siam.org\/journals\/sidma.php\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003ESIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E. Another research article, \u0026ldquo;Toric h-vectors and Chow Betti Numbers of Dual Hypersimplices,\u0026rdquo; is in preparation.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Charles has a rare combination of curiosity, perseverance, and mathematical and computational ability, which makes him an ideal research student,\u0026rdquo; Yu says. \u0026ldquo;I have every reason to believe that he will succeed in graduate school and beyond.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWang\u0026rsquo;s fondness for mathematics has taken him to Hungary, where he participated in \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/oie.gatech.edu\/content\/hungary-bsm-budapest-math-exchange-program\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Budapest Semester in Mathematics Program\u003C\/a\u003E and to North Carolina, Germany, and Finland to attend mathematical research summer workshops. He will pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EDouble honors match Wang\u0026rsquo;s double major. The College of Sciences selected Wang as the recipient of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/osfa.gatech.edu\/robert-pierotti-memorial-scholarship\u0022\u003ERobert A. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship,\u003C\/a\u003E in honor of Robert \u0026ldquo;Bob\u0026rdquo; Pierotti, past dean of the college and founder of the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ceismc.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ECenter for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing\u003C\/a\u003E (CEISMC).
