{"590774":{"#nid":"590774","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Music There Exhibit","body":[{"value":"\u003Cdiv\u003EGeorgia Tech\u0026#39;s Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow Caroline Young focuses her English 1102 class on poetry, specifically the evolving relationship between contemporary poetry\u0026rsquo;s form and function.\u0026nbsp; This semester,\u0026nbsp;students studied poetry that focused\u0026nbsp;on isolated and displaced voices in America and across the globe.\u0026nbsp;This included a project in which students creatively responded to the writing of incarcerated men at Phillips State Prison, designing corresponding artifacts that extend the reach of these writers\u0026#39; voices. \u0026nbsp;The incarcerated\u0026nbsp;poets are all\u0026nbsp;enrolled in Common Good Atlanta\u0026rsquo;s college education program.\u0026nbsp; \u0026nbsp;(commongoodatlanta.com)\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003EThis work, supported in part by Caroline\u0026#39;s 2016-17 Poetry@Tech Pedagogy Grant,\u0026nbsp;gives students the opportunity to\u0026nbsp;analyze and translate the poems into new form, considering the challenges and affordances of\u0026nbsp;media\u0026nbsp;conversion.\u0026nbsp; The three course sections created film, literary broadsides, and an outdoor visual art installation on the terrace of the Stephen C. Hall Building. \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/div\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cdiv\u003ECaroline designed the project as part of the Writing and Communication Program\u0026#39;s Embedded Artist Project (supported by a 2016-17 GTFIRE Grant), working with\u0026nbsp;Ruth Stanford,\u0026nbsp;an\u0026nbsp;Associate Professor in the Ernest G. Welch School of Art \u0026amp; Design at Georgia State\u0026nbsp;University.
