  <body><![CDATA[<p>Points of Light Brighter Futures Fellows Program:</p>

<p>A Georgia Tech Pre-Teaching Internship 2017 &ndash; 2018 Opportunity</p>

<p>Deadline: May 12, 2017 by 11:59 p.m.</p>

<p>Points of Light (POL) and the Georgia Tech Pre-Teaching Program have teamed up to offer an exciting, &ldquo;out of the box&rdquo; education internship opportunity through the Bright Futures Fellows Program! This internship combines classroom assistance, community engagement, and leadership development.</p>

<p><strong>What is the Brighter Futures Fellows Program?</strong></p>

<p>The Brighter Futures Fellows Program, in partnership with metro Atlanta schools, equips talented leaders to provide transformative experiences for students in grades 1 - 12 and to work to impact student attendance, academic performance, and family volunteerism. POL supports math and coding, along with tutoring and other STEM related fields to help students advance academically.</p>

<p><strong>What are the benefits of being a POL Bright Futures Fellow Pre-Teaching Intern?</strong></p>

<p>* Engage in critical work from inside schools and communities</p>

<p>* Help schools increase support in student achievement and academic development</p>

<p>* Research and use best practices from high quality, evidence informed models to design before and/or afterschool programs</p>

<p>* Hands-on, real-world experience</p>

<p>* Training in leadership skills and issues in education</p>

<p>* Access to POL networking opportunities and a nationwide network of more than 200 affiliates</p>

<p><strong>Is this a paid opportunity?</strong></p>

<p>Yes, you will receive a $1000 stipend per month.</p>

<p><strong>What is the time commitment and specific schedule?</strong></p>

<p>* 25-30 hours per week</p>

<p>* Required one full semester commitment (August 21 &ndash; December 21)</p>

<p>* Option of extending the internship through spring 2018</p>

<p>* Specific schedules determined by Points of Light, mentor teacher(s), and the intern</p>

<p><strong>What are the eligibility requirements?</strong></p>

<p>* Current undergraduate and graduate students at Georgia Tech</p>

<p>* 2.0 or higher cumulative G.P.A. when applying and for the entire internship</p>

<p>* Be in current, good academic standing</p>

<p>* Strong background in mathematics or science, including computer science</p>

<p>* U.S. citizens and permanent residents of the U.S. only</p>

<p><strong>What will the work I will do as a Fellow be like?</strong></p>

<p>Classroom Assistance</p>

<p>* Support a teacher or grade level teachers</p>

<p>* Classroom/grade assignment aligned with your skill set</p>

<p>* Assignment designed to accommodate your learning opportunities while also fulfilling classroom needs that can be addressed by the POL program</p>

<p>* School placement with a clearly defined scope of work</p>

<p>* Onsite supervision by an experienced school leader</p>

<p><strong>Community Engagement</strong></p>

<p>* Coordinate and participate in designated Points of Light service initiatives at assigned school site, including generationOn Campaigns: Rules of Kindness, Joymaker, Make Your Mark on Hunger, Family Volunteer Day, MLK Day, and National Youth Service Week</p>

<p><strong>Character and Professional Development</strong></p>

<p>* Ongoing professional development training with Points of Light staff and other leaders</p>

<p>* Study of key education topics and challenges</p>

<p><strong>What type of training will I receive?</strong></p>

<p>* Volunteer management, classroom and behavior management</p>

<p>* Service learning and program development training</p>

<p>* Interaction with diverse community members and leaders</p>

<p>* Career Support: Networking opportunities during and after the Fellowship</p>

<p>* Access to a robust, nationwide network of service organizations</p>

<p>* Career coaching and connection to opportunities</p>

<p><strong>What other benefits will I receive if I am an intern?</strong></p>

<p>This internship is a partnership between Points of Light and the Georgia Tech Center for Career Discovery and Development (C2D2) and qualifies for six audit credit hours (no tuition or fees) and official transcript designation only if officially registered through C2D2. The audit credit hours serve as academic credit hour placeholders towards your full-time status, and you only have to register for the additional number in academic credit hours to achieve full-time student status (12 credit hours) as long as you officially register. 6 registered audit credit hours + 6 registered academic credit hours = full-time student status.</p>

<p>Details regarding how to register the internship will be provided after the completion of the selection process. Failure to register will result in the loss of the aforementioned benefits. You may register for the internship during Phase 2 registration (August 12 &ndash; 25) but must do so before August 21 and the start of the internship.</p>

<p><strong>How do I apply?</strong></p>

<p>Required materials: cover letter, resume, 3 references</p>

<p>At least once reference must be from a supervisor, mentor or professor.</p>

<p>References emailed by the applicant will not be considered.</p>

<p><strong>Will all applications be considered and reviewed?</strong></p>

<p>Only complete applications received no later than May 12, 2017 by 11:59 p.m. will be considered. A complete application is comprised of a resume and a cover letter emailed by the applicant and three references emailed directly by the letter writers.</p>

<p><strong>Interviews</strong></p>

<p>Candidates will be interviewed by Vonnetta L. West and by a principal or representative at a Brighter Futures Fellow Program partnering school. Interviews will be held May 15 - May 26, 2017. All applicants will be interviewed.</p>
