  <title><![CDATA[The Materiality of the Book: Scientific Illustrations in the Georgia Tech Archives]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Students in <a href="https://wcprogram.lmc.gatech.edu/people/person/04973764-4030-5110-a803-3c59e85984ff">Dr. Kate&nbsp;Holterhoff&#39;</a>s 2017 Spring ENGL 1102 course &quot;Visual Culture, Digital Archives and H. Rider Haggard&quot; created posters evaluating the aesthetics and materiality of scientific illustrations taken from books in Georgia Tech&#39;s special collections. In groups of three, teams selected one book from the collection to study in detail. This assignment enabled students to gain hands-on experience with archival materials, while considering the purpose of archives, the role of digital archivists, and the life cycle of library collections.</p>
