  <title><![CDATA[GSU History Talk: "Fiction in the Archives"]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The GSU history department&rsquo;s 2017 Dale Somers Memorial Lecture will be given by Deborah Harkness, professor of history at the University of Southern California and a New York Times best-selling novelist. It will take place at 2 pm on Friday April 7 in room 830, 25 Park Place.</p>

<p>Professor Harkness&rsquo;s academic work focuses on the history of science during the early modern period. She is the author of two academic books,&nbsp;<em>The Jewel House: Elizabethan London and the Scientific Revolution</em>&nbsp;(Yale, 2007) and&nbsp;<em>John Dee&#39;s Conversations with Angels: Cabala, Alchemy, and the End of Nature</em>&nbsp;(Cambridge, 1999). She is also the author of three novels, the&nbsp;<em>All Souls Trilogy</em>:&nbsp;<em>A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night,&nbsp;</em>and&nbsp;<em>The Book of Life</em>, which are being adapted into a television series.</p>
