{"58927":{"#nid":"58927","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Public Policy Major Commended by Georgia House","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EPublic Policy major, Henry Furtick, has been commended by the Georgia House of Representatives through a special house resolution recognizing his work as an intern. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EInterns at the legislature are commonly recognized as a group for their work; Furtick was singled out for special recognition.  \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EFurtick, who is also earning a minor in pre-law, interned in state Representative Larry O\u0027Neal\u0027s office. He worked for the House Committee on Ways and Means, a center of intense activity during the recent House session on the state budget.  Furtick dealt with changing plans, bill drafts, and organizing paperwork for the House committees. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EPresented to Furtick on his final day of work, the resolution, commended Furtick for his \u0022equanimity, professionalism, and good will...significant organizational and leadership talents...patience and diplomacy.\u0022\n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EFurtick says the internship provided him a better appreciation about things that he had only read about in textbooks. As he put it, it\u0027s \u0022the difference between looking through a telescope and walking on the moon.\u0022 He recommends an internship like this one, for students who are interested in public policy, especially the Ways and Means department, where he worked. \n\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EFurtick plans to finish his pre-law minor in his final year at Tech.
