CANCELLED: Talking Craft — Making Identity: Cat Mazza

As part of the Talking Craft – Making Identity series, we will host Cat Mazza at Georgia Tech for a talk and panel discussion Thursday 3/30/17.

Cat Mazza combines craft with digital media to explore the overlaps between textiles, technology and labor. Her practice combines tactical media, activism, craft-based art making and animation towards what has been described as “craftivism.” She is founder of the craftivist collective microRevolt (http://www.microrevolt.org/) that builds around the question “What if social change was not simply a consequence of governing or economic policies; and small, disconnected resistant acts overlapped to nudge along change?”

Her work has shown at the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), the Museum of Arts and Design (New York City), Triennale di Milano (Italy), Garanti Gallery (Istanbul), the Jönköpings läns Museum (Sweden) and the Milwaukee Art Museum. She has also exhibited at new media festivals The Influencers (Barcelona); Futuresonic (Manchester), FILE (São Paulo) and Ars Electronica (Linz). She has presented her work in artist lectures at numerous venues including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Harvard University and California College of the Arts.

Mazza was an early staff member of the New York City art and technology center Eyebeam from 1999-2002. She received her MFA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2005), a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University (1999) and is Associate Professor of Art at UMass, Boston (2007-present).
