With its 343 developments holding over 178,000 units and housing slightly over 174,000 families, it owns one of every 12 rental units in the city. And the demand for its housing is impressive: Nearly 145,000 families are on its waiting list. Often called the best-managed authority in the country, NYCHA represents a centrally owned and centrally managed model for public housing. Atlanta offers a very different model. Ranked in the early 1990s as the nations fifth largest authority and seventh most troubled, Atlanta has been following a very different strategy from New Yorks demolishing its old projects and partnering with the private sector to develop apartments and townhouses built in vernacular architecture for a mix of tenants.

Please join us for a discussion of the issues facing public housing agenciesand their cities.

To RSVP, please call 646-839-3377, or visit www.manhattan-institute.org/events/crd_03-20-08.htm by Friday, March 14.

Please note that this invitation is non-transferable.

RSVP: Acceptances Only

646-839-3377

If you accept and find you are unable to attend, please be sure to let us know.

-----------------------------------------

Manhattan Institute
52 Vanderbilt Avenue
New York, NY 10017

Phone: 212-599-7000 Fax: 212-599-3494 E-mail: mi@manhattan-institute.org

The Center for Rethinking Development presents The Future of Public Housing: Two Models, Atlanta & New York.
mailto:thomas.boston@econ.gatech.edu">Contact Danny Boston
404-894-5020
