Stewart Chair in Georgia Tech\u0026rsquo;s Stewart School of Industrial \u0026amp; Systems Engineering, has been appointed to a four-year term as the editor-in-chief of \u003Cem\u003EIISE\u003C\/em\u003E \u003Cem\u003ETransactions, \u003C\/em\u003Ewhich is the monthly flagship journal of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EA refereed journal, \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transactions\u003C\/em\u003E publishes original, high-quality papers with a strong methodological focus on real problems that impact engineering practice and research. The journal publishes research motivated by critical and complex engineering problems that arise in a wide variety of domains including manufacturing, service, public policy, health care, security, biotechnology, transportation, and others.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs editor-in-chief, Shi will be responsible for the technical content and direction of \u003Cem\u003Ethe journal\u003C\/em\u003E, selection of the focused area editors and all editorial board appointments, oversight of the publication process of the journal, management of the \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transactions\u003C\/em\u003E best papers awards, and enhancing the visibility and prestige of \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transactions\u003C\/em\u003E. His goals for his EIC tenure are \u0026ldquo;to contribute to the prestigious reputation of \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transaction\u003C\/em\u003Es as a top-tier journal in our profession and to promote the frontier research of the industrial and systems engineering community.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShi said, \u0026ldquo;Special-focus issues will be the mechanism to promote new emerging areas and to nurture authorship, referees, and reader groups.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EHe has also served as focus issue editor, interim focus issue editor, department editor, and editorial board member for \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transactions\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn an IISE news release, outgoing editor-in-chief Ronald Askin called Shi a \u0026ldquo;world-class researcher.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Shi has done an excellent job as the focus issue editor for quality and reliability engineering,\u0026rdquo; Askin said. \u0026ldquo;I\u0026rsquo;m confident his vision and energy will lead to increased quality and visibility for \u003Cem\u003EIISE Transactions\u003C\/em\u003E over the next four years.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWidely recognized for his numerous contributions to the field, Shi is an early pioneer in the development and application of data-enabled manufacturing. His algorithms integrate system informatics, advanced statistics, and control theory for the design and operational improvements of manufacturing and service systems by fusing engineering systems models with data science methods. The technologies developed in his research group have been implemented in various production systems with significant economic impacts.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EShi received IISE\u0026rsquo;s David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award and Albert G.
