Our lab stimulates white matter tracts passing through\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nthe subcallosal cingulate cortex (SCCwm) with a prototype bidirectional DBS\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ndevice in TRD patients, enabling an unprecedented level of both stimulation and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nrecording electrophysiology study directly in human subjects. In this project,\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nmy goal is to study SCCwm-centric network oscillations associated with\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ndepression recovery through DBS. Core\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nneeds in SCCwm-DBS include the identification of a biometric that can\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nobjectively inform DBS management and a clarification of the precise brain\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nregions being directly modulates by SCCwm. I hypothesize that SCCwm-DBS rapidly\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nmodulates alpha rhythms in brain regions connected through SCCwm and that SCC\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\noscillations themselves reflect long-term recovery from depression. I propose to (1) model the recording capabilities\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nof the prototype DBS device, (2) identify SCC oscillations that reflect\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ndepression state, and (3) characterize network-level alpha rhythm dynamics\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ninduced by precise SCCwm-DBS.
