Representative Kao addressed \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EGeorgia Tech\u003C\/a\u003E students and faculty on Friday, November 18, in a talk entitled \u0026ldquo;Current State and Prospects for U.S. \u0026ndash; Taiwan Relations.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe U.S. State Department position states\u0026nbsp;that the U.S. and Taiwan \u0026ldquo;enjoy a robust but unofficial relationship,\u0026rdquo; so Kao carries the title \u0026ldquo;representative\u0026rdquo; rather than \u0026ldquo;ambassador.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;We were honored to host Representative Stanley Kao\u0026rdquo; said Joseph E. Bankoff, chair of the Nunn School. \u0026ldquo;These are challenging times and the issues of stability in the South China Sea are important to understand. \u0026nbsp;We were pleased to have this remarkable opportunity to hear from someone so directly involved.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/753d1dfe-c570-5515-9c5f-06479630933c\u0022\u003EDalton Lin\u003C\/a\u003E, a Nunn School assistant professor who organized the visit, commented, \u0026ldquo;In a humorous way, Representative Kao touched upon sensitive and difficult issues in Taiwan\u0026rsquo;s foreign relations. His talk gave my students a rare glance into a diplomat\u0026#39;s delicate dealings in the real world of international politics.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENunn School students had the opportunity to talk informally with Representative Kao during a reception following his talk.
