Abstract:

The objective of the proposed research is to develop a comprehensive scheme for developing a clocked non-volatile spin wave logic device along with efficient transduction between spin and charge domain has been proposed. Magneto-electric effect is used for efficient spin wave excitation, detection and non-volatile data storage (memory-in-logic). The proposed novel clocking scheme en- sures non-reciprocity and sequential transmission of information. Identification of suitable materials and robustness with respect to thermal noise and variability has also been ex- plored for practical realization of an all-magnon based computing system. For seamless in- tegration of the developed micromagnetics based spin wave device model with other CMOS and microelectronics circuit elements, a formalism of a SPICE based compact model for circuit simulation of spin wave device and interconnects has been provided. The developed idea of wave-based computing using wave interference is further extended to the field of plasmonics to develop a nanoscale plasmonics majority logic gate with potential applica- tion in non-boolean computing and envision a hybrid spintronics-plasmonics computing platform. While spin wave logic has been the primary focus till now with wave-based com- puting idea extending to plasmonics as well, in the proposed future research the focus will be on the fundamental interactions between propagating spin waves and other magnetic structures like a domain wall or of particular interest, skyrmions. The proposed work will enable the development of a magnon driven skyrmion race-track memory.
