Turing Award\u003C\/a\u003E. The annual prize is presented by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and is considered by many to be the \u0026ldquo;Nobel Prize\u0026rdquo; for computing.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EWith only 42 living recipients, it\u0026rsquo;s not often that a Turing Award winner visits Georgia Tech to share a lecture or participate in a public forum. That\u0026rsquo;s why it is such a rare honor that not one, but \u003Cem\u003Etwo\u003C\/em\u003E Turing Award winners are set to be on campus in the next month.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ERenowned computer scientist and 1992 Turing Award winner \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/amturing.acm.org\/award_winners\/lampson_1142421.cfm\u0022\u003EButler Lampson\u003C\/a\u003E is presenting a \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/iisp.gatech.edu\/events\/turing-award-winner-visits-georgia-tech\u0022\u003ECapital One Fall \u0026rsquo;16 Distinguished Lecture\u003C\/a\u003E, Sept. 27. Sponsored by the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/iisp.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EInstitute of Information Security and Privacy\u003C\/a\u003E (IISP), the presentation is titled, \u0026ldquo;Retroactive Security.\u0026rdquo; Lampson will share his perspective on why it is time to change the way we think about computer security. The event is free, but \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/gatech.us1.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=de853fab347fb5756a5423781\u0026amp;id=1e9583ffaf\u0026amp;e=176eecf0ce\u0022\u003Eregistration\u003C\/a\u003E is required.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe second laureate speaking on campus is 1995 Turing Award recipient\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/amturing.acm.org\/award_winners\/blum_4659082.cfm\u0022\u003EManuel Blum\u003C\/a\u003E. Currently serving as the Bruce Nelson Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, Blum will present a lecture titled, \u0026ldquo;Human Computation with an Application to Passwords.\u0026rdquo; This event is scheduled for Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. and is hosted by the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/arc.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003EAlgorithms and Randomness Center\u003C\/a\u003E (ARC).\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ENoted computer scientist \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cs.cmu.edu\/~lblum\/\u0022\u003ELenore Blum\u003C\/a\u003E is also \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cc.gatech.edu\/calendar\/day\/2016\/10\/27\/19464\u0022\u003Espeaking on campus\u003C\/a\u003E, Oct. 27. She will present the College of Computing\u0026rsquo;s annual John P. Imlay Jr. Distinguished Lecture. Blum\u0026rsquo;s presentation, titled \u0026ldquo;Alan Turing and the Other Theory of Computation,\u0026rdquo; begins at 5 p.m. in the Howey Physics Building. Blum, a Distinguished Career Professor of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, is married to Manuel Blum.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Turing Award honors Alan Mathison Turing (1912\u0026ndash;1954), a British mathematician and computer scientist. He is widely known for his innovative work advancing computer architecture, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. Turing was also key to British code-breaking efforts during World War II. Presented each year by the ACM, the prize given to \u0026quot;an individual selected for contributions of a technical nature made to the computing community\u0026quot; that are of \u0026ldquo;lasting and major technical importance to the computer field.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":"","field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Two A.M.
