Atlanta Journal Constitution - April 11, 2008
John Bartholdi is sponsoring a race from metro Atlanta to Africa in which there will be no losers, but many winners. He and his of logistics and systems engineering are sending two 40-foot shipping containers to via two routes to see which gets there first... Bartholdi had considered sending empty containers for the sake of the exercise, but realized that he and his students might as well fill them with something Ghanians need... Decatur-based charity MedShare International, had just spoken on campus about how MedShare sends surgical instruments and sponges, hospital beds, wheelchairs, sanitizers, syringes and crutches to needy places around the globe. "I thought, 'Wow! This is great,'" Bartholdi said. "As long as we are sending stuff around the world, we ought to send something that would do somebody some good."
http://www.ajc.com/living/content/living/stories/2008/04/10/Goodworks_0411.html
