  <title><![CDATA[Announcing the Opening of Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center(DILAC)]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Ivan Allen College is pleased to announce the opening of the Digital Integrative Liberal Arts Center(DILAC) located in Skiles 318. The goal of DILAC is to promote new forms of humanistic inquiry through classroom and project based learning. Professor Lauren Klein states, “For Fall 2016, our primary initiative is the development of two communities of practice-- informal discussion groups consisting of faculty, staff, and graduate students, who share common teaching and research interests. One community of practice will be oriented around the topic of digital humanities; the other around the topic of digital civics.”</p><p>The DILAC had its first open house on Thursday, September 8<sup>th</sup>. The open house introduced faculty, staff, and students to the DILAC lab space and events that will be taking place in the future.</p><p><strong><em>The events for Fall 2016 semester are as follows:</em></strong></p><p><strong>Thursday, September 8th, 3-4:30pm: DILAC Kick-Off:&nbsp;</strong>See the DILAC lab and its resources, hear program plans from the Digital Humanities Lab and Digital Civics Labs, discuss support needs and opportunities for the 2016-2017 academic year.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Thursday, September 15th, 3-4:30pm: What Makes a "Digital Humanities" Project?&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss examples of "digital humanities" projects, and participate in a short exercise to identify key project components.</p><p><strong>Thursday, September 22nd, 3-4:30pm: What Makes a "Digital Civics" Project?&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss examples of "digital civics" projects, and participate in a short exercise to identify key project components.</p><p>&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday, September 28th, noon-1:30pm: Digital Humanities / Digital Civics Open Studio:&nbsp;</strong>Share projects in-progress, contribute to collaborative learning through critique, receive conceptual, technical, and design feedback.</p><p>&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday, October 5th, noon-1:30pm: Integrating Digital Humanities Tools and Methods into Courses:&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss examples and best practices for integrating digital humanities tools and methods into undergraduate courses.</p><p>&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday, October 12th, noon-1:30pm: Assessing Learning and Impact in Digital Civics Projects:&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss methods for assessing learning and impact in digital civics projects.</p><p><strong>&nbsp;</strong><strong>Wednesday, October 19th, noon-1:30pm: Digital Humanities / Digital Civics Open Studio:&nbsp;</strong>Share projects in-progress, contribute to collaborative learning through critique, receive conceptual, technical, and design feedback.</p><p>&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday, October 26th, noon-1:30pm: Digital Humanities and Design: Issues and Possibilities:&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss experiences in bringing digital humanities in conversation with design, and learn about how Georgia Tech envisions this intersection.</p><p>&nbsp;<strong>Thursday, November 17th, 3-4:30pm: Digital Civics and Smart Cities: Issues and Possibilities:&nbsp;</strong>Share and discuss experiences working on smart cities projects, and learn about project opportunities that align with major Georgia Tech and City of Atlanta smart cities initiatives.</p><p><strong>Wednesday, November 30th, noon-1:30pm: Digital Humanities / Digital Civics Open Studio:&nbsp;</strong>Discuss projects, lessons learned, and goals for the Spring semester.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>We’re eager to hear how we can better support your teaching and research objectives, so please don’t hesitate to contact us with your questions and ideas.&nbsp;<strong>For more information on DILAC lab please see:</strong> <a href="http://www.iac.gatech.edu/news-events/stories/2016/2/mellon-foundation-awards-georgia-tech-million-new-digital-integrative-liberal/503441" title="http://www.iac.gatech.edu/news-events/stories/2016/2/mellon-foundation-awards-georgia-tech-million-new-digital-integrative-liberal/503441">http://www.iac.gatech.edu/news-events/stories/2016/2/mellon-foundation-a...</a></p><p>&nbsp;</p>]]></body>
