The Office of International Education (OIE) spearheads Georgia Tech’s internationalization efforts. OIE is comprised of several work groups, including Education Abroad, the International Plan (IP), the Global Internship Program (GIP), and International Student and Scholar Services, that offer opportunities for your student to add an international perspective to their education.

With more than 120 different programs, Georgia Tech Study Abroad Programs span every continent and academic discipline. Study abroad is open to all undergraduate students with the opportunity to study abroad for fall, spring, summer, or the full academic year. Students have the choice to study with a group or at a partner university. Furthermore, students earn academic credit towards their degree while on a Tech program and if a student plans ahead, study abroad won’t delay graduation.

However, we know that there is a lot to consider when planning to study abroad and we are offering “Study Abroad 101” information sessions to give students general information about study abroad and help them get started planning their international experiences. These sessions will happen from 11 a.m. - noon in Savant #308 on Tuesdays starting September 6.

We also invite students to the 21st annual Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom to meet program directors, talk to advisors, get free food, and enter for the chance to win raffle prizes (like a new set of luggage, Yeti Tumblers, and more). As such, it is important for students to begin completing some of the requirements in their first two years. We also encourage students to begin planning out their international experiences in their first year even if they do not plan to go until much later so that they are fully aware of all their options and the specific program requirements. All IP students are encouraged to meet with the IP Advisor, Colette Fournier, and their academic advisors as they work to complete their International Plan.

The Global Internship Program offers students the opportunity to intern abroad during their time at Georgia Tech. Students may intern abroad for 10-52 weeks with companies and institutes around the world. Typically, students find global internships during their last two years at Georgia Tech, after having already gained domestic internship experience, as well as studying abroad. We encourage students to attend our “How to Find a Global Internship” information session, held on September 15, at 11 a.m. in Savant #308.
