Project One is a campus-wide project that seeks to connect first-year Georgia Tech students to faculty, mentors, and organizations for a shared learning experience. The program encourages students to express their individuality, creativity, and ambitions for the future by developing multi-media projects while exploring topics central to the Georgia Tech community.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFor this year\u2019s Project One, our theme is \u201cResilience.\u201d Resilience is about more than just survival, it\u2019s about learning and changing and growing\u2014all qualities that our incoming students will experience during their journeys here at Georgia Tech. Project One will offer film screenings, discussions, and speakers, covering topics from \u201cThe Martian\u201d to Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cLemonade,\u201d and all offering an opportunity for first-year students to participate in discussions around what resilience means for individuals, systems, and communities. The project will culminate in a spring film festival, where students will have the chance to create their own multi-media project about resilience.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe first film screening of \u201cThe Martian\u201d has already taken place and over 1000 students attended. The next screening will be \u003Cstrong\u003ESeptember 9, at 7:30 p.m., in the Ferst Center Theater,\u003C\/strong\u003E and will feature Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s \u201cLemonade.\u201d With its mix of arresting visual storytelling, powerful musical narrative, and complex social commentary, Beyonc\u00e9\u2019s ground-breaking visual album \u201cLemonade\u201d deals with themes of empowerment, race, gender, and resilience. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe last screening will show the film, \u201cFast, Cheap and Out of Control\u201d on \u003Cstrong\u003EOctober 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Student Center Theater. \u003C\/strong\u003EThis is an innovative documentary created by Errol Morris. It asks the question: what do a lion tamer, a robotics professor, a topiary gardener, and a naked mole rat expert have in common? More than you might think...\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EEncourage your student to participate in these free screenings as part of their first-year experience. And although Project One is geared towards first-year students, all events and programs are open to all Georgia Tech students, faculty, and staff.
