  <title><![CDATA[Computing's Mynatt Named Distinguished Professor]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The College of Computing is pleased to announce that one of its senior professors has been named as a distinguished professor.</p><p>Effective immediately, <a href="http://www.cc.gatech.edu/people/elizabeth-mynatt">Beth Mynatt’s</a> promotion to distinguished professor is based on her scholarship and contributions to Georgia Tech and the College of Computing, as well as on her commitment to advancing computer science.</p><p>“This is a well-deserved honor and reflects Beth’s leadership on campus and throughout the computing community,” said College of Computing Dean Zvi Galil. “She is one of the most dedicated and insightful researchers I have had the privilege to work with in my career.”</p><p>Since joining the College of Computing faculty in 1998, Mynatt has had a number of leadership positions. She is currently the director of the <a href="http://ipat.gatech.edu">Institute for People and Technology</a> (IPaT) and the director of the <a href="https://research.cc.gatech.edu/ecl/">Everyday Computing Lab</a> where she investigates the design and evaluation of health information technologies. Prior to this she was director of the <a href="http://www.gvu.gatech.edu">GVU Center</a>.</p><p>Beyond her duties on campus, Mynatt also represents Georgia Tech within the global computing community.</p><p>She is the current chair of the Computing Research Association’s <a href="http://www.cc.gatech.edu/news/532331/mynatt-takes-helm-computing-consortium">Computing Community Consortium</a>, and she recently became a member of the National Academies’ <a href="http://sites.nationalacademies.org/cstb/index.htm">Computer Science &amp; Telecommunications Board</a>. Mynatt was also <a href="http://www.cc.gatech.edu/news/477401/faculty-selected-new-fellows-acm-and-ieee">selected as a Fellow</a> of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in December 2015. She is a member of the SIGCHI Academy and a Sloan and Kavli research fellow.</p><p>After receiving her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University, Mynatt earned her master’s degree and Ph.D. in computer science from Georgia Tech.</p>]]></body>
