56972 news 1273449600 1475895975 <![CDATA[Georgia Tech-Savannah Student Wins Microsoft People's Choice Award]]> Shayok Mukhopadhyay and his teammates on Coders, Inc. won the People's Choice Award at the 2010 Microsoft Imagine Cup Competition. This particular award was decided by votes received over the Internet from the general public. Coders, Inc. were one of 10 teams selected from across the U.S. to participate in this competition, which was held April 23-26 in Washington, D.C.

A Ph.D. student in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Georgia Tech-Savannah campus, Mr. Mukhopadhyay joined forces with Yamini Girey and Krishna Rao from the Illinois Institute of Technology to create a Web site known as AwareNet. The site is designed to create an online forum where non-governmental organizations, volunteers, donors, and vendors can interact and share resources. Its underlying idea is to create a social media enterprise/network for people who want to help or for those who are in need of assistance.

Mr. Mukhopadhyay is advised by ECE Assistant Professor Fumin Zhang.
