  <title><![CDATA[ASMEA Annual Conference]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://asmea.nonprofitcms.org/c/conferences/4/pages/overview" target="_blank"> Ninth Annual Conference</a> of the<a href="http://www.asmeascholars.org/" target="_blank"> Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa (ASMEA)</a>&nbsp;will take place on&nbsp;October 27 - October 29, 2016&nbsp;at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel in Washington, D.C. &nbsp;This will be&nbsp;a unique gathering of scholars and practitioners and this year's event is titled, "Taking the Long View: Assessing Change in the Middle East and Africa."<br /> <br /> Featuring Roundtable Discussions on:</p><ul><li>Turkey in the Aftermath of the Failed Coup</li><li>Water and War: A New Conflict for the Middle East and Africa (sponsored by Marine Corps University Press)</li><li>Assessing Iran-Saudi Tensions</li><li>Fire in the Desert: Jihad in the Sahel</li></ul><p>In addition, over 140 papers will be presented covering the length and breadth of the Middle East and Africa.<br /><br /> The keynote address, "The Pathology of Middle Eastern Studies" will be delivered by Prof. Martin Kramer, President of Shalem College and author of <em>Ivory Towers on Sand</em>. H.E. Ambassador Rachad Bouhlal, from the Embassy of Morocco, has been invited to deliver remarks at the opening session. There will be a professional networking reception, film screenings, and an extensive book display with the latest titles on the Middle East and Africa.
