  <title><![CDATA[O’Connor to Depart from Tech]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Jim O’Connor, vice president for the Office of Information Technology and chief information officer, will soon leave Georgia Tech to assume the role of chief information officer for Auburn University.</p><p>O’Connor has been at Georgia Tech for 22 years, originally coming to manage technology for the Olympic Village. He has served in a series of progressive leadership roles within OIT and in his current role for six years.</p><p>“Throughout his tenure, Jim has focused on the importance of people and strategy in helping the Institute achieve its academic, research, and administrative missions,” said Steve Swant, executive vice president of Administration and Finance. “I appreciate Jim’s dedication and contributions to Georgia Tech, and his humble but strong service leadership. We will miss him greatly.”</p><p>O’Connor oversaw the transformation of legacy mainframe systems into full-scale enterprise financial and human resource software implementations leading up to “Y2K.” He has spent the past three years engaging campus stakeholders in developing a strategic roadmap for information technology that to be followed for years to come.&nbsp;</p><p>O’Connor will depart in mid-September. Mark Hoeting, chief operating officer for OIT, will lead a transition team including deputy chief information officers Lori Sundal and Herb Baines as the search process begins for a new CIO.</p>]]></body>
