Favelas are low-income communities that are home to almost a quarter of Rio de Janeiro\u2018s population. De Oliveira\u2019s goal is to help the children in the community stay off the streets and away from drugs and violence. In 2010, Miratus secured some of its funding from an American non-profit group called Rise Up \u0026amp; Care run by Kirk Bowman, a professor in soccer and global politics at Georgia Tech, and Jon Wilcox, a banker from Orange Country California.
