He was formerly architecture dean at Rensselaer, chairman of the Architectural Association in London and architecture dean at Rice University. Since 2014 he has held the position of advisory professor to the CAUP Faculty of Tongji University, Shanghai. Most recently he gave a keynote address at World Architecture Festival in Singapore, titled \u003Cem\u003EShanghai 2050,\u003C\/em\u003E the subject of a work in progress.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlan Balfour writes on the cultural imagination. His most recent book \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/alanbalfour.com\/books\/temple_mount\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003ESOLOMON\u0026#39;S TEMPLE, Myth, Conflict and Faith\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E (Wiley-Blackwell, 2012) studies the constructive and destructive power of faith present in the myths and realities of one place Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Other books include \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.alanbalfour.com\/books\/parliament\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003ECreating a Scottish Parliament\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E (Finlay Brown, 2005), and three books in Wiley\/Academy\u0026rsquo;s World Cities series, \u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.alanbalfour.com\/books\/newyork\/\u0022\u003ENew York\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E in 2001, \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.alanbalfour.com\/books\/shanghai\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cem\u003EShanghai\u003C\/em\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E in 2000 and \u003Cem\u003EBerlin\u003C\/em\u003E in 1995.
