{"55464":{"#nid":"55464","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Senate Approves Version of FY2011 Budget","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EThe Georgia State Senate passed its version of the FY2011 state budget on Wendesday.\u0026nbsp; The move came a week after the House approved its recommendations on Legislative Day 36. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Senate edition of the budget maintained many of the same items as the House version in regard to the University System and Georgia Tech.\u0026nbsp; Both the House and the Senate agreed with the Governor\u0027s recommendation to approve $7 million in bonds to equip the Clough Undergraduate Learning Commons, Georgia Tech\u0027s primary budget priority.\u0026nbsp; Both bodies also voted to fund growth in Formula Funds at $113 million, the total of which will be shared among all USG institutions.\u0026nbsp; Since both chambers approved these items, they are considered to be off the table during continued negotiations. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe House and Senate did differ in some areas of the Regents\u0027 budget.\u0026nbsp; From an operations standpoint, the Senate reduced the USG budget by an additional $13 million over the House budget.\u0026nbsp; On the other hand, Senators were more generous with capital items. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Eco-Commons water relocation project at Tech, which was not included in the House budget, received partial funding in the Senate.\u0026nbsp; $300,000 in bonds were recommended for the design of that project, down from the $4.5 million requested for full construction.\u0026nbsp; The Senate also reverted to the Governor\u0027s recommendation for Major Repair and Rehabilitation funds of $60 million.\u0026nbsp; The House had suggested $55 million. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EHouse and Senate leaders must now reconcile their individual chambers\u0027 budgets in conference committee, the first meeting of which occured on Thursday morning.\u0026nbsp; A conference committee version of the budget is expected to appear on the floors of both chambers on Tuesday or Thursday of next week. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStaff from the Office of Government and Community Relations will continue to monitor the progress of the budget at the State Capitol and advocate for full consideration of the University System and Institute\u0027s priorities, including complete funding of the Eco-Commons capital project. \u003C\/p\u003E","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003ESenate proposal maintains most House recommendations; restores partial funding for Eco-Commons and MRR\u003C\/p\u003E","format":"limited_html"}],"field_summary_sentence":[{"value":"Senate proposal maintains most House recommendations; restores partial funding for Eco-Commons and MRR"}],"uid":"27331","created_gmt":"2010-04-22 08:16:22","changed_gmt":"2016-10-08 03:05:53","author":"George Ray","boilerplate_text":"","field_publication":"","field_article_url":"","dateline":{"date":"2010-04-22T00:00:00-04:00","iso_date":"2010-04-22T00:00:00-04:00","tz":"America\/New_York"},"extras":[],"hg_media":{"50863":{"id":"50863","type":"image","title":"State Capitol","body":null,"created":"1449175449","gmt_created":"2015-12-03 20:44:09","changed":"1475894473","gmt_changed":"2016-10-08 02:41:13","alt":"State Capitol","file":{"fid":"146036","name":"cap.jpg","image_path":"\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/cap_0.jpg","image_full_path":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/cap_0.jpg","mime":"image\/jpeg","size":1556119,"path_740":"http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/740xx_scale\/public\/images\/cap_0.jpg?itok=UHFOLO1y"}}},"media_ids":["50863"],"related_links":[{"url":"http:\/\/www.legis.state.ga.us\/legis\/2009_10\/senate\/budgetreports.htm","title":"Senate Budget Proposals"}],"groups":[{"id":"47398","name":"GCR (Office of Government and Community Relations)"}],"categories":[],"keywords":[],"core_research_areas":[],"news_room_topics":[],"event_categories":[],"invited_audience":[],"affiliations":[],"classification":[],"areas_of_expertise":[],"news_and_recent_appearances":[],"phone":[],"contact":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGeorge Ray\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EProgram Specialist for Government Relations\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022mailto:george.ray@gatech.edu\u0022\u003Egeorge.ray@gatech.edu\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E","format":"limited_html"}],"email":[],"slides":[],"orientation":[],"userdata":""}}}
